New First Presidency: Monson President, Eyring and Uchtdorf Counselors
Posted by Andrew on February 4, 2008
Read the Deseret News article here.
The article notes: “At age 80, President Monson is one of the youngest men to become church president in the past quarter century. President Hinckley was 84, and Presidents Howard W. Hunter and Ezra Taft Benson were 86. President Spencer W. Kimball became president Dec. 30, 1973, at the age of 78.”
With Eyring and Uchtdorf as two of the younger members of the Quorum of the Twelve, the new First Presidency is one of the younger ones we’ve had in quite some time. Uchtdorf’s inclusion in the First Presidency also has obvious significance because he is a native of Germany.

This is all-around awesome! I have been very moved in recent years by Eyring’s messages and am glad to see him in the 1st Pres. Same goes for Uchthdorf. Is he the first non-American (meaning the US & Canada) to occupy a spot in the 1st Presidency?

As far as I know, Uchtdorf is the first non-American member of the First Presidency. I believe John Taylor was the first foreign-born member of the first presidency, being born in England. However, he had long been an “American” by the time he joined the First Presidency.

I believe Marion G. Romney was born in Mexico and was forced to come to the states during Villa’s revolucion. That is from a great book by Richard Flake that contains short bios of every apostle and first presidency member since J. Smith.
Of note Amasa Lyman, his son and grnadson were all apostles in their own times, and all three excommunicated for 3 distinct reasons.

To My Friends of Faith,
Recently a friend at our church brought this “film” to my attention.
Her son apparently was sent this web link from someone.
It’s a movie clip (that has been recently released, or is about to,,, I’m not sure),,
anyway, it depicts Mormons as flesh eating ghouls, and it is just awful. http://www.thebookofzombie.com
On behalf of myself and my husband, and our Mormon friends,
I would like to make sure that young people are NOT subjected to this terrible conception of our faith.
please let me know if you are able to help.
regards, Betty Toms

Gotta love that ol’ guerilla marketing! No better way to “stop” the word about a movie from spreading that posting a link to the trailer all over the web.
